  1. I think this could be interesting...but I can see a lot of difficulty in getting that headset to play nicely. The last I had seen of it, the people showing it off at e3 a few years back had a bit of trouble getting it to do simple things...hopefully it has since improved.

  2. This is a really cool concept! But I think you have a few things to worry about. Mainly...

Kids. Whenever they're involved you have to water things down to make sure they task is possible, otherwise they get frustrated (which they do very easily) and quit.

However, you're expecting children to navigate a puzzle (frustration flag #1) environment using very new (frustration flag #2) technology, and it's all supposed to be self guided? (frustration flag #3)

I think you'll find that most children will have enough trouble hitting a single button at the correct time, even when they're told explicitly when and how to do so.

What you're trying to do is really neat but I suggest you rethink your delivery logistics.

  3. Sean,
They have smoothed it out since it has officially hit the market and it has been put to alot of unique tasks so far.'

    Matt,
Yea, that's why Will is lead design and not me, I tend to have grandiose but incomplete plans. The proposal document has introduced a few details smoothing those prospective issues out. For example we're going to use Khufu's Pyramid which has a straight forward and minimalistic chamber layout. And for self guided it won't be sandbox where they'll have to work to find their tasks in the first place, it just won't be holding their hand telling them exactly what to do stuffing factoids down their throats type of educational game.

  4. This is a very good idea. I would like to see lots of notes as you progress regarding the responsiveness of the tool that you use. I see that there will be puzzle elements. I was wondering to what level would this be. I'm thinking that this would involve new things being discovered as objects are placed in certain areas. Like solving an archeological mystery. Not truly like grave robbing but excavation as if the pyramid were untouched by others and this is the first entry. Egyptian history is pretty expansive regarding what was in tombs. Regardless, best of luck!

  5. Christina,
I'd call it anti-excavation, or maybe curating for the pristine environment. The narrative I threw into the game proposal document as you will see was really a quick, cheap solution as far as having something written down is concerned. However, since many countries are developing an exchange in returning ownership of artifacts to the country which they belong, this could be incorporated as the explanation behind the game in taking that return a step further -just another idea for "working" narrative at the moment since our focus is currently in action.

Since the goal of our project is to develop for the emotiv because we can, and the proposal document is necessary practice I threw in our puzzle idea as a feature for flavor. We don't have any specific plans for what the smaller puzzles will be like just yet, and they would be incorporated after a number of larger elements.

  6. I think some kind of Star Wars game would be really cool to do with this technology. Even just a game where you have to pull the x-wing out of the swamp.
